What is the Job
The role of an assistant photographer is to do whatever is needed to make sure that the photo shoot runs perfectly.
It usually consist of prepaying sets, checking all the equipment works properly, setting up lights, and accessories, taking meter readings, transmitting files and transporting film or prints to and from labs.
In a studio, you will help with keeping the set clean and tidy and printing photographs as required.
Catalog and optimise digital files, scan film and assist with images manipulation and enhancement.
You will keep records of film stock, exposures, lighting set ups, also names and details of art directors, models, stylists, animal handlers and other contributors. you are expected to entertain clients during a shoot
On location, assessment of the site before arrival for shoot, check vehicle access, power and communication facilities. Organise transport, catering and accommodation, set up equipment.
Some photographer have several assistants known as first assistant, second assistant and so on...
