As someone who is interested in helping out and volunteering as well as a photographer who is interested int he outdoors, i decided to apply for some work experience with the Wildlife Trust, but unfortunately i didn't realise how far away it was from where i lived and could not do it. Although during the easter holiday i got talking to the lady who i emailed about the placement, i met her through coincidence when out at an easter open day with my family and she mentioned that she might be able to get me some work experience closer to my home, so hopefully i will be able to do some work experience for the wildlife trust, as well as produce some nature wildlife photographs.
I have put this little bit of information in here due to using my own initiative to go out and find some work, which in class we are always talking about how we would get out into the world.
This opportunity through summer should give me some skills when working in the industries and hopefully help me learn and explained on my photographic and personal skills

L5. 16 Digital Archive
This is some screen prints of how i store my photography and other backed up information on my hard drive. To be honest i wasn't exactly sure whether to produce a website with visual images on or if this is how it is meant to be portrayed but i have decided to do both. In doing so it shows my organisation skills.
i am not going to lie but sometimes i am not as organised as i should be but i like to make sure i know where all my images are incase i need to access them quickly.
L5. 15 - A competition i entered
As the other section of the report requested was that we entered a competitions and so i entered Lens Culture Portrait Awards 2015.
I entered the lens culture portraits award do to the fact that it was a portrait competition and i felt like my portrait images that i have was probably the only image that i am totally happy with and feel like this is the only one that i wanted to show at this time in my career and education. I have got a lot of issues with showing my work as i am not to great when i let others look at it, unless it is for marking. The lens culture portrait awards was actually one of a few competitions that were open because i left it quite late because i didn't thick any of the there competitions were the ones that suited my photography.
My entry for this competition did not need much deliberating over the image i was going to use, the image below is the competition entry.
'A young women's trues emotions come from the courageous clothing she wears, although her body language and facial expression presents an opposite effect, her bold choice of a red scarf offers an insight into her true emotions.'
Producing this images i had a Canon 5D Mark II and one light that was situated to the right of her body in the picture, it was elevated just above her head facing in at her. i have always like this photograph and to be honest its is one of my best portraits in m opinion.
I am satisfied with this image as my first professional major competition entry, its just i felt like i didn't known what i was doing when it came to entering a comp, even though i knew what image i was submitting, i just didn't feel like i was always making the correct decision but for my overall decision i am happy with.

I choose to put this image into the competition because i just felt like for a first entry this was good enough, i hadn't really entered a competition before and i felt satisfied using this one.

L5. 14 Work experience for my report
For the report we were asked to provide i based my on teaching within the photographic industry, and as primary research i have the opportunity to do some work experience in and art department in Stockton Riverside College.
To start when i was planning out my report i knew i wanted to base it on teaching in colleges because i have always been interested in it, and i went and phones my old tutor from college to see if i would be able to come in and do some work experience when someone i know mentioned about work experience for primary resources. This is exactly what i did and it just happened that she allowed me. Word cant describe how i felt, it was over joyed due to the fact that i had the opportunity to do something i have never done before and i got to learn about teaching in a college. The main reason that i had to keep remembering is that my report was based upon teaching photography in a college based environment and i had to base my experience on photography.
I did my work experience in February 2015 at Stockton Riverside College, i started in the tuesday and finished on the friday, and i have got to say it was one of the best experiences i have done. Throughout the week i got to help around the classes, offer some advice, have tutorials with the students, practice university interview with one the students as well as do some photography with them and show them my work too.
This was a jam packed week. The one thing that i felt like i achieved was on the communication with the students because i am not that much older than them and they understood that i was a member of staff and respected me for that, but i could also talk to them as though they were adults. I had the opportunity to teach one of the classes and do some photography with them, giving them tips on what to look for like how the light sits on objects and how to present their wok.
Not only did this work experience give me evidence through teaching photography but it also gave me the opportunity to produce some questionnaires about photograph;y teaching and this gave me another set of primary research that i could refer back to in my report.
This experience has given me the opportunity to put to use skills that i have never really used whilst being a student at college, although i am professional when it comes to business like my job as warden and student ambassador, this opportunity allowed me to play a role in the work experience that gave me an opportunity to teach the students bait about my knowledge and understanding of different subjects and share with them some of my experience whilst being out in the working environment, because they would be there soon too.
Whilst there teaching about photography, this experience has made me more enthusiastic about becoming a teacher and i feel like this is where my next step once finishing university is to go, even though i will still keep producing photographs as i love photography and the general history and equipment used in it.
I feel like this work experience has helped me most definitely, it has help me have a better understanding of how funding within the college has an impact on what can be taught and how it is taught as equipment is quite expensive but i feel like colleges should still use photography as many students have very nice iPhones and other phones.
This experience has given me and insight into how the college environment works on a tutor aspect as i have now had the opportunity to view it from both side.
It has given me the opportunity to collect primary research for this report and gave me an insight into what others think of photography.

L5. 13. A career I'm interested in - Teaching
I have always been interested in photography since i was young and i was always interested in teaching and so i came up for my report to base it on teaching photography in a college based environment, in which i did some work experience at Stockton Riverside College.
Teaching in a college based environment for 16+ or adult learners requires qualifications such a PGCE, QTS/QTLS as well as an understanding and qualification of what you are teaching for this case photography. You can get these qualifications form different university courses and can study for PGCE in one year course.
Not only do you need qualifications when teaching but...
A full teaching role so this would be that they do everything, planning, organising the course it would be classed as a DTLLS Diploma in teaching in the lifelong learning sector also known as a PGCE/CertED.

L5. 11. Writing a CV
In todays society you must require a CV when applying for a job, but it is also a great way to store you qualifications and achievements and so on.
A CV is basically a document that you provide when applying for a job, it is a document that is advertising you. You are selling yourself to the employer for a job. The CV will require different points of you as an individual, your skills, abilities, qualifications, employes, and experience.
We were asked to produce a skill based cv and i feel like it was one of the most difficult things because i had to talk about myself in a positive way, and I'm not use to doing that. Below is a list for you to look at, basically just saying a few tips when producing a CV, these are what helped me.

L5. 10. Setting up a photography website
When setting up a photography website for the world to see, the one thing that you have to remember it is professional. Below is a list of what to remember when setting up and looking for a provider when creating a photography website.
- What you want it to do - Archive, Portfolio, Sales, blogging
- Do you need a selling function
- Pre Design set up or create your own
- does it load quickly
- Does your images look go on the computer screen
- Can you access your website on mobiles
- Does the provider have tools to get you noticed
- How secure are you images
- Good reputation
- Does it fit with your budget
Once choosing to set up a photography website you need to remember a few tips for producing it for the viewer to use.
- clean and simple
- be responsive
- don't be a poet
- search engine optimisation ready
- contact info everywhere
- faster is better
- o you put full bleed images in or not?
- act like a road map
- portfolio tightly
- be social
- be ready to sell
both sets of bullet points that are situated above are very valuable when creating a successful photography website, because when viewing the website you do not want the viewer to get board and to make sure that it is easy for them to use, as if its to difficult to access certain stuff they might not waste any more time with you and you would potentially lose a client. setting up a photography website is one of the most important aspects of a photographer career, it is a place for the viewer to analyse (or judge) your work, seeing if your work is the work they want. Photography is such a demanding job especially in today's society and having a nice website may just make or break your career.
To create a website you would go through a professional website provider, these could be 123-reg, Fasthosts, Layerspace/Layerweb, Amazing Internet, Clickpic and may other. Below is some information about one provider known as 123-Reg.
123-Reg
this is a link to 123-Reg website https://www.123-reg.co.uk/about.shtml

When looking into creating a website, i came to the occlusion that i would not need to produce a professional one due to the fact of me wanting to go into teaching for my career once finishing University.

This festival offers the audience showcases, emerging talents and it promotes photography as a whole. Not basing on one genre, Photo London offers a vast amount of genres of photography from vintage to contemporary.A quote i took of the Photo London Website by mayor of London Borris Johnson
'At a time when so many of us are using our smartphones to capture images of the people and sights around us, we shouldn’t forget photography’s significance as a long-lasting art form. There is an incredibly rich variety of photography, both historical and contemporary and it would be wonderful to see a new international photo festival in London. It would add to the other art and design festivals that draw visitors from across the UK and around the world.’
I personally have never been to this event but i feel like this is an extremely brilliant one to go to as it is in the heart of the country and all of the big photographers who either love in London or are associated with it will know about it, and i feel like it will have a lot of contacts and just the opportunity to go to London to view or exhibit your work.

L5. 7 Pricing & Costs and Copyright
Pricing + Cost
The one thing that many up coming photographers and what i hate is pricing and the cost of your work. You have to remember that you are actually making a living and need to keep it at a price that overtime you can live off, as this could be you households income.
When producing work you always aim to produce the best quality and original work because you want to be notices and this is what you have to remember when valuing your work, remember the quality and distinctiveness reputation.
Making a Profit
Is it profitable ?
Below are some pointers on how to make sure your work is set at the reasonable profitable price when starting a photography business.
Copyright
Copyright is a legal documents that states that the original work by someone is theirs work exclusive and that all rights to that photograph belong to them and no one else. They have the right to the distribution - for a limited time but they still give the creator compensation.
So basically copyright is just a bigger name for owning something, and having the privilege to say that it is their work and not someone else, also it stops others from copying your work.
When does it arise
This is something that will appear straight away when your work qualifies for protection, making sure it is original and that it actually originated for the creator and not someone else trying to pull it off as their own. It is the expression of the idea that is protected and not the idea itself. You cannot stop people from borrowing the idea but something very similar to the copyrighted idea can not be copyrighted.
Owning Copyright and Joint ownership.
When being self employed The owner of the copyright is the person who created it for example the photographer, but when being employed the copyright goes to the employer as it is their name/company that is paying you to photograph and produce a certain amount of imagery for them.
Owning copyright is starting to be more and more popular in today's society as more and more work is being produced and people are starting to pick up on other producing work extremely similar to their and they are actually going to court over it, so copy righting is so intense but certainly important.
You can share ownership of the copy right due to the fact if you cannot be sure who played the important role when producing the photographs that you can share the ownership of the image as more than one person inputted into it. This means that you cannot legally license the work without the other consent, as you both own the work.
Rights to copyright
Having copyright gives the owner the the right too. also the photographer is given moral rights that allows them to associated as the owner of that piece of work.

Below are some pointers on how to make sure your work is set at the reasonable profitable price when starting a photography business.
- Known your market - the average amount of photographers in your area and evaluate their services, quality and make sure your work will fit in, seen as though their is not point in setting up where someone else is doing the same thing.
- known your client - More cost means higher quality work, determine what your clients want as some do not have the funds to pay for expensive photo-shoots.
- Evaluate your Investment - How much time you put into a hoot determines on the price of it, i.e. a wedding their is prepping, the shoot and editing after, so you want to make a profit. Are you getting paid by the hour or overall
- Your expense - Make sure you know what you are spending and the cost of everything. Keep in mind cost of equipment, time, presentation/packaging, and insurance.
- Establish your job - Total your hourly rate and expenses. Make sure you cover for the entire year of jobs and other expenses.
Pricing and cost of photography might be expensive but if you have regular amount of money that you are happy with when receiving for the year, just make sure that you are putting in the hours for you to get a decent profit of money.
