Photography Jobs I have done
Jennifer
and Martin’s Wedding
May
17th 2014
I
was hired to cover a wedding on the 17th May 2014 by a couple known
as Jennifer and Martin Graham. They approached me and asked if I had ever
covered a wedding and asked if I would cover their wedding.
I
mentioned that I had never covered a wedding before but would love to give it a
go. I asked another photographer I knew if they would assist me and she did.
To
start the initial process of the wedding photographs me and the other
photographer arranged for the couple to meet up for a formal meeting regarding
what they wanted the photographs to look like, basically what they wanted. For
example close ups of the dress, flowers, family photographs, couple
photographs, wedding venue photographs.
I
thought that the initial planning of the process was excellent but I have
decided that this is not where I want to go with my photography career.
Although it was a wonderful wedding and ceremony it was extremely stressful.
This
process has led me down the oath of other directions and I have now officially
gone into a different direction with my photographic career. Although it has
taught me a lot about the wedding industry, for example expectations, high
standard, how it flows, how to take charge, what is expected.
The
experience was definitely worth it but I have decided to change my path but the
opportunity was amazing and I was grateful that they asked me to cover there
wonderful day.
I
presented there images on a disk as they were not sure exactly what they were
wanting to do with them, but if they want them in an album I will happily do
that for them.
18th August 2014
As a follow up of Jennifer
and Marty I was hired again to cover a Photoshoot of them together down at
Redcar Beach.
This was an amazing
opportunity again and I could not turn it down. To organise this day we talked
face to face over a business meeting and discussed what they were after and how
I could portray it to them.
This opportunity gave me the
confidence and let me express my photography in something that I felt
passionate about. Unlike the wedding I didn’t feel any pressure, I could
capture their love and connection. This brief was more open and allowed me to
experiment more, giving me more options of displaying and scenery.
This Photoshoot gave me the
opportunity to have fun and gain a better understanding of who I am as a
photographer. I have had other job since this beach Photoshoot, jobs including
another wedding as a photo booth photographer and portrait of a lady’s grad
children.
The experience was worth it
and it gave me confidence in what I was doing and it enlightened me into a
style of photography, more of a documentary style.
Again I presented their
images on a cd and a memory card, they wanted to get their photographs printed
separately and they did not pay for a pack that included a book, etc.
A lady called Leigh who I
was helping out in her wedding shop hired me. She needed a photographer for a
last minute wedding photobooth that she had to put together and I happened to
be in her shop at the time and she asked if I would cover it for her. I agreed
and attended the wedding.
At first I didn’t know what
to do but she briefed me that there was a photobooth and just to take
photographs of the guest who were in the photobooth.
It was an interesting
opportunity because I had never been asked to cover a photobooth before and it
allowed me to practice my photographic skills, I had to improvise because it
was a dark space with terrible lighting. But they turned out ok in the end.
Any experience is worth it
but I felt a bit uncomfortable through some of it because quite a lot of the
guest were drunk and making rude positions but its part of the job so I got on
with it.
As I was working for someone
she specifically said she wanted the photographs on a disk so that is what I
did for her.
The opportunities that have
occurred to me through my photography student career has been a pleasure and I
have learnt so many new and interesting facts about me as a photographer and
new photographic skills.
I have learnt about me
-
My style
-
What I am
interested in
-
How to handle
clients
-
Plan
-
Organise
Photographic skills
-
Editing/retouching
-
Use a tripod and
not free hand for certain photographs
-
Positioning
Doing photography job has
enabled me to learn a lot about me as a photographer and what I want to
photograph. I am more of a documentary style photographer, focusing on shapes
and repeated shapes, colours and so on.
