AOP Student Awards
The AOP formally known as
‘The Association of photographers’ first started in 1968 also known as the
‘Association of Fashion and Advertising Photographers’, it was known to be one
of the most prestigious professional photographers association worldwide.
It aims to promote and
protect the worth and standing of its members, it defends, educates and show
interests and rights of the photographers, especially in the commercial path.
Assisting photographer and
professional photographers are welcome to join, or anyone who is interesting in
photography are welcome to join too.
The AOP assists many
photographers and companies such as advertising agencies, design groups,
publishing houses, music publishes.
AOP as a company aims to
publicise work either through magazines, newspapers, books or their work is
sold onto collectors or other put into galleries. The association allowed
professional photographers to provide work and makes it available to other
people. They have a high level of achievement.
The AOP is an excellent for
up and coming photographer to have a go and put your work out there. All the
information that I have found is from the AOP Student Award page http://www.the-aop.org/awards/aop-student-awards-2016
Basically from the brief
that is a screen shot above, the AOP Student Awards are split into three
categories, people, places, things. All the information is located on the
website http://www.the-aop.org/awards/aop-student-awards-2016.
The information above states
exactly what the AOP expect of your photographs and what they want you to show.
Following this type of brief allows you to gain an understanding of how the
professional photographic industry works. It allows you take have an example of
what exactly you may be requested to do when given a brief from a client or
company.
Not only what I find great
about this competition is the opportunities but also that the photographs/work
are judge by professional photographers that are highly thought of in the
photographic industry.
Entering a competition is
the way forward, it can open many doors to other photographic situations and it
could be the push you need.
BIPP
BIPP, which is formally
known as the British Institute of Photography is an international recognised
organisation. It has over 100 years of experience offering support and help
networking photographers.
They deliver education,
qualifications and development for photographers. They offer courses, events
and preferential deals on products and services.
Their members are worldwide,
and have connections with the Defence School of Photography and the College of
Policing to ensure the future of photography. Not only do they do the above but
they also help represent professional photographers to government and the industry.
The BIPP Awards for this
year have closed and the winner has been announced, you can find out more about
the winning photographer by clicking on this link http://www.bipp.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1364
The BIPP website does not
really show as much information as I would like it too but it certainly does
advertise itself and all of the help it can offer. This organisation is
certainly a big help in this photographic industry. What is best about this
organisation is that photographer runs it.
London Photo Festival
London photo festival is an
organisation set up for up and coming photographers who are looking for their
big break, or it is set up for an enthusiast who just wants to show what they
have got.
London Photo Festival was
sent up in 2011, set up, as an affordable way to display your art and anyone is
welcome from all over the world.
London Photo Festival is an
organisation that will not judge your work but will display your work as long
as it is not offensive. This is a link to their competition page
This organisation is a great
way to get your work publicised especially if you are just coming into the
photography industry and you do not have many contacts. Above is some
information about the competition as to what is expected of you, the
judge/judges, prize and so on.
What I have found about
photography competitions is that you have to always keep an eye out on them and
do your research because quite a lot of the competitions are closing but you
should definitely apply your work into them.
Why is it important to enter
a competition?
One of the main reasons for
entering your work into a competition is because it advertises your work, even
if you think it is rubbish, it might not be and you wont know until you try and
advertise yourself.
If you’re successful then
good for you, if not there is always next year.
All of the above photography
competitions are excellent and offer so much opportunity but it depends on what
you class as your style of photography, there is no point In entering something
that is not your style.
